Centrally located in an old colonial building, Via Via Leon is somewhat of an institution in Leon.  At the front of the building is the bar.  Fridays are live music night at Via Via Leon, pulling in locals and travellers for a great night out.

Behind the bar is an open-air courtyard restaurant area, that also serves free breakfast in the mornings.  You will also find a tour agency based here where you can book the famous volcano boarding among other activities.

Further back, in another courtyard is the accommodation. Offering doubles and dorm rooms, the accommodation is simple but comfortable.  Despite the loud bar at the front, this area is quiet and relaxing, with hammocks and benches to rest and relax.

Although there is a popular bar at the front, the hostel doesn’t have a party vibe. Via Via Leon is a good hostel for solo travellers and couples, it’s easy to meet other people as it’s not a big place. // Hostel recommended by Wes from Walkabout Wes

One of the best hostels for solo travellers or travellers who are looking for a good party in Leon is the Big Foot hostel. You can sure count on a party every night in this hostel. There are different (drinking) activities organized by the hostel throughout the week. From pub quizzes, to flip cups and beer pong, to just about any drinking you can imagine.

Besides the parties, there is one other famous activity organized by the hostel; volcano boarding.  For this tour, they actually take you to slide down a volcano! There is a wall of fame that shows the fastest sliders of the day, month, year, and ever (a record you definitely want to achieve).

The hostel may not have the largest pool or the best dorms, but the incredibly helpful and enthusiastic staff and the fun parties largely make up for that. // Hostel recommended by Lara from The Best Travel Gifts

Casa de Los Berrios is a wonderful, family-owned courtyard-style hotel, with beautiful tropical plants and colonial character. The property gets a 10-out-of-10 for location, it’s just a short walk from the main plaza.

The rooms are simple, spacious, and very clean. All have tables and chairs outside, so you can sit and relax in the shade planning trips or reading books. There is a kitchen which we used to keep our drinks cool in the fridge.

The couple who own Casa de Los Berrios are super-friendly and welcomed us with open arms. The lady, Marisa, knew some English words, had a great sense of humour and nothing was too much trouble. They will book shuttles, and tours and will happily answer any questions you may have.

This hotel is not for late-night party-goers. The doors are locked at 10 pm and you need to ring one of the family to be let back in.  // Hotel recommendation by Vanessa | Wanders Miles
