After a mighty journey from Dubai being led the wrong by Google unable to keep up with the changes in the roads, we finally arrived at the lovely entrance of 4 star Tilal Liwa Resort in the heart of the desert of Rub al Khali.
What draws us into the desert is the search for something intimate in the remote.
Staycation at Tilal Liwa Resort
SERVICE: We were given a warm welcome by the reception and immediately felt at home and happy to be there. Throughout our stay the staff were friendly and courteous.
ROOMS: Great size and super clean! The adjoining door let some noise in from the family next door (they were unusually loud so I don’t think I can blame the hotel room).
FACILITIES: At the hotel you will find infinity pool (towels are supplied by the pool staff), sauna, hammam, jacuzzi, and free wifi. There are many ways to keep yourself amused with the giant chess, pool table, table tennis and table football. For the thrill seekers you can get involved in quad biking, sand boarding, horse riding and dune driving. The quad biking was brilliant although with the sandstorm brewing, I found it difficult to see and kept landing myself straight into a sand dune!
FOOD & DRINK: Once we landed by the pool to relax for the day, we were advised by the barman at Al Liwal pool bar about a deal where you can drink for 190 AED per person until 9.45pm (includes any other of the bars in the complex), this allowed us to get involved with the poolside games. For our evening meal, we decided to join in the BBQ and belly-dancing show which was an additional cost. The meat was tender and the prawns were well-cooked, really fresh buffet with salads, hummus and breads, there were not many takers so we got extra portions. The breakfast was served in Al Badiya restaurant, I’m always happy with an omelette station it has to be said!
LOCATION: It’s a 3 hour drive from Dubai on our way there and we carried on to Abu Dhabi the next day which was 2 hours. This is a fabulous hideaway location if you want to chill, there really are not too many distractions unless you get stuck into the desert adventures. You really can’t fault the stunning view of the desert especially at sunset.
COST: We bought a deal on Groupon, fantastic value for money. It was 349 AED for 2 people which included 1 night stay for 2 people and 15 minute quad biking for 1 person – if you both want to quad bike you need to pay an additional 50 AED.
IN A WORD OR TWO: I would definitely go again!
